PEERS for Young Adults

About these groups:

Essential skills taught:

  • Choosing, finding, and maintaining friends
  • Using electronic communication
  • Appropriate use of humour
  • Conversation skills
  • Organising successful hangouts with friends
  • Developing and maintaining romantic relationships
  • Appropriate dating etiquette
  • Handling arguments and disagreements
  • Handling rejection, bullying, teasing, and rumours/gossip

‍

During group sessions, participants are taught the above skills and are given the opportunity to practice them in session during interactive activities (e.g. role plays, video reviews, boardgames). Parents/carers/support workers are taught how to assist their young adult by coaching them through weekly home practice tasks.

‍

Our PEERS for Young Adults group will be running in Terms 3-4 2026. Groups will be held on Fridays from 4:00 - 5:30pm at our Charlestown clinic. Prior to the group starting, we will schedule introductory meetings with each young adult and any parent/carer/support person they wish to attend with them, then the group runs for 15 weeks.
