PEERS for Young Adults

About these groups:

Essential skills taught:

  • Choosing appropriate friends
  • Using electronic communication
  • Appropriate use of humour
  • Conversation skills
  • Organising successful get-togethers with friends
  • Developing romantic relationships
  • Appropriate dating etiquette
  • Handling arguments and disagreements
  • Handling rejection, bullying, teasing, and rumours/gossip

During group sessions, participants are taught the above skills and are given the opportunity to practice them in session during interactive activities (e.g. role plays, playing sports, boardgames). Parents/carers/support workers are taught how to assist their young adult by coaching them through weekly socialisation tasks.

Our PEERS group for Terms 3-4 2022 will be held on Fridays from 4 - 5:30pm at The Place, Charlestown commencing on 22nd July. We will schedule introductory meetings with each young adult and their support person(s) (e.g. parent) prior to the group starting, then the group runs for 15 weeks.

Please complete the details below to register your young adult in our next PEERS program!

*Please note, our 2022 groups are currently full. We will be taking registrations for our 2023 groups from the beginning of November 2022. Please contact us to go on our mailing list if you would like information about our 2023 group programs. *
