PEERS for Teenagers

  • Conversation skills
  • Finding common interests
  • Making phone calls
  • Using electronic communication
  • Organising successful get-togethers with friends
  • Finding sources of friends
  • Choosing appropriate friends
  • How to use humour
  • How to be a good sport
  • Handling bullying and rejection
  • Handling rumours, gossip, and disagreements
  • Changing a reputation

During group sessions, participants are taught the above skills and are given the opportunity to practice them in session during interactive activities (e.g. role plays, playing sports, boardgames). Parents are taught how to assist their teenager to make and keep friends by coaching them through weekly socialization tasks.
