PEERS for Teenagers

About these groups:

Essential skills taught:

  • Conversation skills
  • Finding common interests
  • Using electronic communication
  • Organising successful hangouts with friends
  • Finding, choosing, and maintaining friends
  • How to use humour appropriately
  • How to be a good sport
  • Handling bullying and rejection
  • Handling rumours, gossip, and disagreements
  • Changing a reputation

During group sessions, participants are taught the above skills and are given the opportunity to practice them in session during interactive activities (e.g. role plays, video reviews, boardgames). Parents are taught how to assist their teenager to make and keep friends by coaching them through weekly socialisation tasks.

Our PEERS group for Terms 1-2 2024 will be held on Fridays from 4-5:30pm at our Charlestown clinic commencing on 9th February. We will schedule introductory meetings with each teenager and their parent(s)/carer(s) prior to the group starting, then the group runs for 14 weeks (with a break over the Easter weekend, and 2 weeks break over the April school holidays).

Please complete the details below to register your teenager in our next PEERS group.
