Carol Murray

Certified Practising Speech Pathologist

A bit about me:

Carol is the owner of Leaps & Bounds Speech Pathology at Charlestown and East Maitland and has The Best Job in The Whole World. She has a passion for helping children with speech, language and literacy difficulties. She has specialised training in the PROMPT system (a system which gives input to the muscles of speech by using touch and pressure) and is further qualified to teach her clients' parents the basics of this system.

Carol is also a Hanen Certified Clinician who is able to teach parents individually and in groups "It Takes Two to Talk" (for parents of children with Language Delays). Carol enjoyed running two of these parent groups at Special Ed, University of Newcastle in 2006 for First Chance, and often works through the program with individual parents. "More Than Words" (for parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder) and "Talkability" (people skills for verbal children on the Autism Spectrum) are other programs Carol is trained to run and loves working through with parents. She is also qualified to teach Pre-school teachers "Learning Language & Loving It" (promoting children's social, language and literacy development in early childhood settings).

Carol has also been trained in Key Word Signing and Auslan. She has done further post-graduate training in DIR/Floortime, Spalding, MULTILIT, THRASS, Blades, Blades in Depth, Auditory Processing, Speech Sound Disorders, Assessing and Teaching Social Skills, Stuttering, Stages of Play, Reading Comprehension and many different courses in the area of Autism Spectrum Disorders, including SCERTS training.

Carol is also an Orofacial Myologist. This means she has specialised training in being able to assess and treat detrimental orofacial habits such as thumb sucking and can help correct tongue thrust patterns which may be associated with dental malocclusions.

Being a Speech and Language Pathologist is a dream come true for Carol and she feels privileged to be able to do something she is so passionate about everyday. Carol is gifted in making every child or adult she works with feel special and important - because they are! She loves helping her clients and they, in turn, love working with her.

Where I work / clinic:

Fun Fact:

Carol lives with The Fabulous Husband, Scottie, who is also referred to as “Fixer-of-Things” and “Helpy-Helperton”. They live together with the qualified permission of George and Mary, the most adorable kittens ever. Carol loves her life and still cannot believe she gets to have so much F-U-N every single day.
