Amy Tesluk

Hanen Certified Speech Pathologist & Clinical Director

A bit about me:

Amy is the Clinical Director at our Leaps & Bounds Charlestown and Warners Bay Clinics. Amy is a caring, dedicated and highly experienced Speech Pathologist, who has been a proud member of the Leaps & Bounds family for 10 years. She is a Hanen Certified Speech-Language Pathologist with training in both "It Takes Two to Talk", (which specialises in Early Childhood Language Delay) and "More Than Words" (a specific program for children with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder). Amy loves using her Hanen expertise with her families on a regular basis.  Amy has particular interest in the areas of complex speech including dyspraxia, early language delay, as well as literacy development. She has a strong interest in adult dysphagia (swallowing disorders), but also enjoys working with children, adolescents and adults across all areas of communication.

Amy endeavours to continually expand her knowledge and strong clinical skills through her commitment to ongoing professional development. She is a Certified Practicing member of Speech Pathology Australia, which is a title given to speech pathologists who meet an annual benchmark for professional development. Amy has completed comprehensive post-graduate training in numerous evidence based programs, including the PROMPT technique (a system that gives input to the muscles of speech by using touch and pressure), Literacy Difficulties, Sounds-Write (a structured phonics program for literacy development), DIR/Floortime, HANEN, Connect Therapy (for children with Autism), Stages of Play, Learning Difficulties and numerous courses in the area of Autism Spectrum Disorders. She also provides regular mentoring to other clinicians within the practice.

Amy's clinical approach to therapy is based upon her ideals that not only is it important to help children in way that is fun and exciting, but to also adapt to each individual child and their family. Being a mother herself, Amy strives to tailor therapy programs that are evidence based and effective, functional and fun, and will also fit in with busy everyday family life. She feels that if parents are relieved from additional stress and unnecessary pressure, then there is more room for fun, learning and achievement by all!

Amy is an extremely skilled and enthusiastic clinician who puts an incredible amount of time and effort into each client. We find that a lot of the time Amy's clients don't even realise they are working hard, because they are having such a good time!

Fun Fact:

Amy loves spending time with her amazing family and friends--especially in summer-time with a nice cold Diet Coke. Amy has a great style and is our resident artist, always happy to draw for those of us who do not possess the same level of creative skill.
